An ongoing leak created a draining situation for some residents at The Jacob Riis Houses until NY1 For You stepped in to help out. Our Susan Jhun has an update on a resolution.

"I’m hoping that they keep their promise," said tenant Louise Velez.

Hope among tenants at the Jacob Riis Houses that they'll potentially be rid of a reoccurring leak that drains when it rains.

"Every time it snows or is raining, the water comes out," said tenant Jose Batista.

Residents reached out to NY1 For You back in January when Louise Velez told us water would come through the brick exterior into her son’s bedroom.

"He puts clothes on the floor, whatever, and they get ruined, all soaked and wet," Velez said.

At the time, after we contacted NYCHA and staff inspected, a spokeswoman told us the agency determined that water penetrates through the brickwork when it rains.

She said NYCHA would reach out to contractors for bids to perform the necessary repairs.

That was two months ago and now NYCHA tells us brickwork will begin in April and NYCHA expects it to be completed this summer.

Finally, an exact timeline for repairs residents hope will get to the root of the problem.

"I’m hoping they will do the repair and keep their promise," Velez said.
