Last month, NY1 for You told viewers about a warning issued by the Better Business Bureau regarding an online Hoverboard retailer which the Better Business Bureau claimed wasn't delivering on its promises. Susan Jhun has an update on the story in the latest NY1 for You report.

Jody Lopez says she spent more than $400 on this hoverboard which stopped working two weeks after it was delivered.

When NY1 for You meet with Lopez in February, she said she couldn't get through to the company that sold her the board.

"I called Hoverboard 360 about six to seven times per day. Every time that I would call, it would take me to a voicemail, and the voicemail was completely full," she said at the time.

According to Better Business Bureau records, Lopez is just one of hundreds of customers who claim the online retailer Hoverboard 360 sold them defective hoverboards or failed to deliver purchased boards at all.

"Hoverboard 360 has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York," said Claire Rosenzweig, president and CEO of BBB Metro NY.

At the time, a spokesperson for Hoverboard 360 told us that the company would diligently respond to every complaint. A month later, NY1 for You checked in with Lopez to see if she received a refund.

"They sent me an email with a return form asking me to return the hoverboard back," Lopez said. "I returned the hoverboard back on February 25, and I haven’t heard anything back from them."

NY1 for You contacted Hoverboard 360, and a spokesperson claims the company requested that the credit dispute on Lopez's account be lifted in the beginning of March. However, Lopez says she has no evidence of that on her account. NY1 for You reached out to Citibank, and a spokeswoman told us that a provisional credit has been issued and that Citibank is happy to work with Hoverboard 360 to resolve the charge.

In response to the BBB complaints, the Hoverboard 360 spokesperson said the company upgraded its technology and added staffing to avoid further issues. The spokesperson went on to say that the company has been working with the BBB in good faith for the past three months to resolve all open complaints and will continue to do so.

Lopez filed a complaint with the New York State Consumer Protection Board, which has resolved three other complaints against Hoverboard 360 and is now looking into her case.

NY1 for You will keep you updated.
