A lack of hot water had tenants in one building at the Marble Hill Houses boiling mad until they contacted NY1 For You and we got their hot water back.

New York City Housing Authority tenant Irma Kelly has been forced to perform an exhausting routine for the past three months since she has been living without hot water.

"I had surgery on one of my breasts because I had cancer, and I can't, the doctor said for me not to do lifting," Kelly said.

However, she has had to do a lot of lifting of pots full of boilingwater since the day she lost hot water in her building at the Marble Hill Houses on Exterior Street, near West 225th street.

"We need hot water," said Patricia Daniels, a NYCHA Tenant. "It's not right. We pay our rent here."

This taxing experience has not only affected the disabled and elderly, but also for those small children.

"It's hard because for me, I can try to deal with it, but he's a kid," said Malikka Vansluytman, another NYCHA Tenant.

Residents say it is a building wide issue that the NYCHA hasn't yet addressed.

"They don't say much. They just say, 'We put the ticket in. You all just got to wait,'" Kelly said.

NY1 called NYCHA, and after looking into the matter, a spokesman said the building had intermittent hot water for the past few months and that NYCHA responded when a complaint was filed. To that, the tenants say they never had hot water during waking hours in the past few months.

The spokesman said staff was sent to determine the reasoning behind the lack of hot water after NY1 For You's call and found that it was due to an electrical issue. The spokesperson went on to say that NYCHA electricians installed new equipment to fix the issue and that NYCHA apologizes for the impact this issue had on its residents.

NY1 went back to Kelly's apartment and confirmed that the hot water had indeed returned.

"I'm very happy it's on, and I hope it continues to stay like that," Kelly said.
