Tenants at one building in East Harlem were struggling to get by without basic services when they reached out to NY1 For You. NY1's Susan Jhun has an update on their situation.

Two weeks ago, Robert De Jesus and his elderly parents contacted NY1 For You after living without heat, hot water and cooking gas for over a month.

"It's very frustrating for me to see them suffer like this," De Jesus said. "They're my parents, they're elderly. When it gets very cold, I bundle them up, I try to keep them warm."

De Jesus says he and his ailing parents had no notice of what was going on since a gas leak was detected a month earlier and gas was shut off to his six-story building.

After De Jesus reached out to NY1 For You, we contacted El Barrio Operation Fight Back, a non-profit which owns and manages the building.

A representative told us a contractor started working on the repairs and would keep tenants informed about the process.

Now weeks later, residents report the heat and hot water are back.

The El Barrio spokesman went on to say they're working hard to get the cooking gas restored.

NY1 will keep you updated.
