A steadily growing hole has residents on one street on Staten Island concerned. Susan Jhun filed the following NY1 for You report.

Staten Island resident Frances DiClerico has a sinking feeling about a growing hole on the street outside her Emerson Hill home.

"It's dangerous. I walk a dog, and at night, I could fall. The dog, I keep her away from it," she says.

The hole has sat there for six months, according to the concerned homeowner, who says it just keeps getting bigger.

Residents say DEP came out about a month ago and put a cone in the hole, but they haven't been back since.

"Someone did come, but they did nothing about it," DiClerico says.

After residents contacted us, we called The Department of Environmental Protection, and crews were sent out immediately to fill the hole and assess the situation. Unfortunately for DiClerico, DEP officials tell us that contractors' work to determine what was causing the hole may have led to flooding in her basement. DEP officials went on to say that further repairs to the sewer line will necessitate some design work and permitting, which is currently underway.

In the meantime, it appears DiClerico will have to file with the city for damages.

We will continue to follow this situation.
