A dark stretch of street in Morningside Heights has joggers and pedestrians wondering why they're being left in the dark. NY1's Susan Jhun has their story.

"This is not safe," says resident Max Moyet.

"It is dangerous," says one pedestrian.

A pitch black path has those walking and running along Morningside Drive nervous for their safety.

"I feel unsafe. I usually turn my music down and I sometimes even put my flashlight on," runner Beth Tipton says.

There are about a half a dozen lights out along this stretch from a 110th Street to 113th Street which makes for a very dark route.

"It invites people with nefarious intentions," Moyet says. "On top of that, I've seen bicyclists that have raced down here and are unaware of the speed bumps and they get into accidents."

Residents say the lights have been out since Memorial Day weekend and their repeated calls to 311 haven't yielded any results.

"The entire summer, these lights have been out," Moyet says.

We contacted The Department of Transportation and found there's an electrical outage in the area. A Con Edison spokesman told us they need to do work on electrical lines in the street and crews are scheduled to start work.

Finally, some light shed on the situation. We will keep you updated.
