A potential move has one Harlem family hopeful for a better quality of life. NY1’s Susan Jhun filed the following NY1 for You report.

Walls crumbling down and conditions no one should have to live in. Unfortunately, for Shukara Ausmore and her family that's exactly how they've lived for close to two decades now.

"The walls started puddling in. Water started coming through the ceiling," Ausmore said.

NY1 for You has been following the tenant's struggle to get the New York City Housing Authority to address the extensive leaks in her apartment at the Harlem River Houses. Back in May, a NYCHA spokeswoman told us a major construction project was underway at the Harlem River Houses to address significant roof leaks.

After our call, the spokeswoman told us Ausmore's request to transfer to another apartment was approved. However, two months later, NYCHA still had not found an apartment for Ausmore as conditions in her current apartment worsened.

"They accidentally drilled a hole through the ceiling. So now, we have a big hole in the shower," Ausmore said.

NY1 for You contacted NYCHA once again, and the spokeswoman said Ausmore was on the highest priority list. Now, a week later, we can happily report that an apartment finally became available. Ausmore and her family have an appointment to see the apartment, and hopefully, this will be the move to put an end to their worries.

NY1 for You will keep you updated.
