Cracked walls and peeling paint has one NYCHA resident pleading for help. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following NY1 for You report.

Shukara Ausmore says deteriorating conditions in her family's apartment at the Harlem River Houses are not getting better. She says they're getting worse.

Back in May, we told you about the extensive leaks in Ausmore's unit, which caused the walls to crack, even creating holes in some spots.

"The walls started puddling in," she said. "Water started coming through the ceilings."

At the time, NY1 for You contacted NYCHA, and a spokeswoman said there was a major construction project underway at Harlem River Houses that includes brick façade repairs, roof replacement and apartment rehabilitation for the top-floor apartments that have been significantly damaged by roof leaks. After our initial call, the spokeswoman told us Ausmore's transfer request was approved and she was given highest priority.

To date, Ausmore has not been moved. Now, construction work on the roof is making a bad situation worse.

"They accidentally drilled a hole through the ceiling. So now we have a big hole in the shower," she says.

NY1 for You contacted NYCHA once again, and a spokeswoman told us the family remains a high-priority transfer, but due to the limited number of four-room apartments, a transfer apartment has not been secured at Harlem River at this time. She went on to say that NYCHA will review the existing damage and make repairs as needed, and the agency hopes to move the family into another apartment as soon as possible.

"I'm upset, because it's the same situation," Ausmore says. "I thought that we were going to get transferred, but we're still waiting."

NY1 for You will stay on top of this.
