Some Queens residents got to the root of an ongoing problem with the help of NY1 For You, as a damaged sidewalk in Rosedale was finally fixed after two years of concern. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following report.

Finally, a rough situation is smoothed over in Rosedale after years of waiting.

"They came and they did a beautiful job," says June Baylor, a Rosedale resident. "They couldn't take the tree down, but I got a new sidewalk."

Back in 2013, residents contacted NY1 with concerns that a huge tree was uprooting and breaking up the sidewalk.

"It's picking up the ground, and pretty soon, it's going to be falling," Baylor said at the time.

"I think it's really dangerous," Constance Haynes, a Rosedale resident, said at the time.

At the time, NY1 for You contacted the Department of Parks and Recreation. After an inspector was sent to the site, a spokesman told us the tree was healthy, but he said the sidewalk could be repaired under the agency's free trees and sidewalks program in the next year. Almost two years later, Parks finally fixed the sidewalk.

"Now, it looks much better," Baylor says. "I'm very happy with it."
