Residents in a Queens neighborhood are hoping to get to the root of an ongoing problem with the help of NY1 For You. NY1's Susan Jhun has this follow up report.

It's a work in progress that's been years in the making.

"I don't know what they're going to do now," said resident June Baylor.

Back in 2013, residents in Rosedale contacted us with concerns about a huge tree that's uprooting and breaking up the sidewalk.

"It's picking up the ground, and pretty soon, it's going to be falling," said Baylor.

"I think it's really dangerous," said Constance Haynes, another resident.

At the time, NY1 For You contacted the Department of Parks and Recreation, and an inspector was sent to the site.

A spokesman told us the tree was very healthy, but he said the sidewalk could be repaired under the agency's free trees and sidewalks program in the next year.

Now, almost two years later, Parks finally started repairs. However, residents said they came several days ago and ripped up the sidewalk but haven't been back since.

Residents are concerned that this work won't get finished since they say this isn't the first time Parks has come to fix the sidewalk.

"They just looked at it, and they picked up the stuff and left and said they'd be back, and they never came back," Baylor said.

They didn't come back until the beginning of this week.

NY1 For You called the Department of Parks and Recreation, and a spokeswoman told us the contractor is scheduled to come back and add forms and gravel to the area. The agency expects concrete for the sidewalk to be poured by the end of the week.

NY1 For You will keep you updated.
