A resident at the Rangel Houses is disgusted with the view from her window. NY1's Susan Jhun filed this report.

Diapers, glass bottles and beer cans are just some of the garbage NYCHA tenant April Canselo says is thrown outside of her window every day.

“We can’t open our windows,” says Canselo. “It’s more than just a sour smell, it’s actually like, if you ever left fish out for a few days.”

The tenant who lives at the Rangel Houses in Harlem says the trash is thrown from an apartment above onto a roof which is right outside her window. Not only is the amount of garbage excessive, but Canselo says it’s also completely unsanitary and unsafe.

“It’s everything from pampers, to underwear on fire, to cigarettes being lit, so it can be a fire hazard at times,” explains Canselo.

Canselo says NYCHA did clean the roof in the fall but the garbage is back and worse than ever.

We contacted NYCHA and a spokesperson told us management at the Rangel Houses will look into the situation. The spokesperson went on to say that individuals found responsible could be subject to administrative action which can include, in extreme cases, termination of residency.

Canselo says she hopes NYCHA will take action and catch those responsible for the dumping.
