Tenants at one Brooklyn housing complex finally get the delivery they've been waiting for. NY1’s Susan Jhun filed this report.

A desperately needed brand new set of mailboxes for residents at the Marcy Houses in Brooklyn who have been without boxes and mail delivery since January.

“It’s a beautiful mailbox, it’s a beautiful mailbox,” tenant says Vermell McIver. “Now we don’t have to go to the post office to get our mail. So we’re happy.”

“Now, she can just go downstairs to check her mail. Instead of, you know, somebody has to walk you know, to Broadway, to the post office, you know – so I feel good about that,” says James McIver.

A month ago we told you how tenants had been struggling to get mailboxes after their old set broke, forcing them to pick up their mail at the post office almost a mile away.

“We have a lot of elderly people in this building. They cannot make it to the post office to pick up their mail, and when they get over there, it’s a big line,” tenant George Santiago said.

At the time, a spokeswoman from NYCHA told us the agency was working to resolve the issue and repairs would be completed in three weeks.

When we checked back a month later tenants were still without mailboxes. We contacted NYCHA once again and this time the spokeswoman said delays were due to the mailbox manufacturer.

However, a few days later the new mailboxes arrived, delivering good news to residents.
