A growing problem in one Queens neighborhood has residents furious with the city for not taking action. NY1's Susan Jhun filed this report.

"When is the city going to do something—when a kid gets hurt or somebody gets hurt?" wonders June Baylor about the tree in front of her mother's property.

It's question that's been on the minds of residents in this Rosedale neighborhood for years. Back in 2013, we told you about their concerns over this massive Oak tree and it's roots rising up out of the ground – breaking up the sidewalk.

"My concern is this tree falling on my house," says neighbor Constance Haynes.

"I don't want the tree to come down and fall on my house and then the twigs and everything keep on falling down," says Baylor.

Residents worry not only about the tree falling but also about the tripping hazard from the roots that take up half the sidewalk.

"It's markedly reduced the width of the sidewalk. This tree really is a hazard. And I can't understand why no one is taking it down," says Danielle Haynes.

We questioned The Parks Department about two years ago. At the time, a spokesman told us the tree was healthy so the city wouldn't remove it, however he said the sidewalk could be repaired under the free tree sidewalk repair program the next year. He went on to say the sidewalk would be contoured around the tree roots so the problem wouldn't reoccur.

To date, nothing's been done.

We called Parks again and this time a spokeswoman said the site was marked for repair last fall, but needs to be redesigned before the work can take place this year.

To say residents are skeptical is an understatement.

"They put a work order in over ten years ago to fix the curb it's never been fixed," says Danielle Haynes.

We will keep you updated.
