  • Jeremy Renner stars in two new series, “Hawkeye” and “The Mayor of Kingstown"

One week after “The Mayor of Kingstown” premieres, Renner’s other new show, “Hawkeye” will release on Disney+. It’s based on his character in the "Avenger" films.

Renner previously worked with Sheridan on the film “Wind River.” When Sheridan pitched Renner “The Mayor of Kingstown,” it didn’t take the two time Oscar nominee to say yes.

“He just gave me the ideas over the phone, and he set up the world for me, set up the kind of tone for me and the character,” said Renner. "I mean, I didn't read one word, I already said yes.”

“The Mayor of Kingstown” is about a small town in Michigan where the business of incarnation is the only thriving industry. The show focuses on the McClusky family who are power brokers. They try to keep the peace in Kingstown by delivering their own form of order and justice.

Three-time Academy Award winner Dianne Weist plays the tough as nails matriarch who isn't happy with her family's line of work.

“I haven’t been given work, a script like this, ever,” said Weist. “She can't really let down the rage she feels over losing her family to these gangs that she lives among. Every day, somebody is going to knock on the door and say one or another of the kids is dead.”

Renner says Sheridan’s writing shines in the series.

“This is something very challenging for Taylor because he normally writes in more of a natural sort of setting in farms or in the fields or this kind of world, but he's writing in a very urban sort of, you know, environment," Renner said. "His writing is perfect for this type of world because he write so raw, so pure and so honest and ferocious, it equally intimate and tender.”

“The Mayor of Kingstown,” also starring Kyle Chander, begins streaming Sunday, November 14 on Paramount +.
