“12 Mighty Orphans” premiered at the MetroTech Center in Brooklyn as part of this year's Tribeca Festival.

What You Need To Know

  • Luke Wilson, Vinessa Shaw, Martin Sheen and Robert Duvall star in new drama "12 Mighty Orphans"

  • The film's director couldn't believe he got to work with two acting legends - Sheen and Duvall - who were working together for the first time since "Apocalypse Now"

  • This year's Tribeca Film Festival continues to hold red carpets and screenings in all five boroughs

On the red carpet, I told Vinessa Shaw, one of the stars of the film, that my photographer/editor cried all the way through the movie and that he couldn’t even edit the story because he was crying so much.

What did she like about the film?

"It’s just uplifting and heartwarming and all the things you could want in a stereotypical Hollywood movie," said Shaw. “Of course it matches and mirrors our day and age right now where we’re coming out of a pandemic. And you know, obviously in the 30’s we were coming out of the Depression and dealing with what is life and how are we going to deal with this new normal, and I feel like that's similar to what we're dealing with now. So I think we all need a good cry. We've been through a lot.”

Shaw plays the wife of Luke Wilson on the big screen. Wilson wasn’t feeling his best and couldn’t make the premiere, but we spoke to him earlier.

“Vinessa and Martin Sheen and Ty Roberts, the director, we all feel the same about getting the chance to go to Tribeca and get to screen a movie, and yeah, to have people there - it's really exciting,” said Wilson.

“When Robert Duvall and Martin Sheen got together, I had to pinch myself honestly," added the film's director Ty Roberts. "Just really honored to be able to have been with them. And Martin Sheen is such a caring, wonderful, funny, unbelievable collaborator."

"Frankly, I was very nervous because I have been a fan of Robert Duvall most of my adult life," Sheen said. "I worked with him in a few scenes in 'Apocalypse Now' - that's the only time we've ever worked together. But I have been a fan of his and I adore him and to see him again, I had butterflies."
