Another member of Bishop Richard Malone’s office is stepping down.

Steven Timmel announced he will resign as the chief financial officer of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo early next year.

“After 31 years of service to the Catholic Church in Western New York, I look forward to new professional challenges, effective February 1, 2019,” he said in a statement provdied by the diocese. “I am grateful to the staff of the Diocese of Buffalo, past and present, for their dedication in support of the mission of the diocese.”

His resignation comes a few months after communications director George Richert left the diocese in September; earlier in the year, Siobhan O’Connor, who worked as an administrative secretary for Bishop Malone for three years, resigned. She was later confirmed to be a whistleblower, providing information and documents on alleged sexual abuse of children by priests.
