QUEENS N.Y. - Just a week after cyclists celebrated the redesign of a Sunnyside intersection, another group held a protest on Sunday to demand that NYC's Department of Transportation make some changes.

Queens Streets for All held a rally at the intersection of Skillman and 43rd Avenues on Sunday.

They want the DOT to address some new concerns they have with the layout.

They allege that the new bike lanes actually inhibit some emergency vehicles from getting where they need to go.

An NYC DOT Spokesman said, "As we do with all of our projects, we are working closely with FDNY on the Skillman Avenue and 43^rdAvenue redesign. We are in constant contact with their Planning team and the Queens command to discuss their needs and recommendations, which we plan to implement in the coming months. After continuing consultation with FDNY and other community stakeholders, in particular the Fresh n Save Marketplace, we already made adjustments to the project, including improved signal timing along the entire corridor to improve traffic flow, additional flexible barriers to keep the turning zone at 51st Street and Skillman Avenue clear of illegally parked vehicles, along with an added buffer area. In the area near the grocery store, we created a larger loading zone with longer hours to facilitate loading and unloading."

There are those who feel differently about the changes.

Just last weekend, a family friendly bike ride was held through the same area.

Participants said the DOT 's changes have made the area safer for bikers and pedestrians.
