The de Blasio administration is taking steps to reduce sugar consumption citywide.

The Health Department announced the initiative Friday.

Under the plan, the city's administration will work with food manufacturers on a voluntary basis to lower sugar amounts in food and beverages by 20 percent by 2025.

Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg tried to reduce sugar in New Yorkers' diets when he pushed a ban on large sugary drinks. That ban was eventually overturned by the courts.
