A driver from Staten Island is facing hate crime charges after police say he attacked a Jewish man in Brooklyn over the weekend.

Police say it happened just after 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of 46th Street and 13th Avenue in Borough Park.

The 62-year-old victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition and was treated for minor cuts and bruising.

The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Farrukh Afzal.

Investigators say Afzal mistook the Orthodox Jewish man for someone else who had stepped in front of his car earlier in the day.

He has been charged with assault as a hate crime, criminal mischief and harassment.

There is no word on what led up to the attack.
