A man and a woman are now in custody after a brutal attack on a retired NYPD lieutenant and his wife Monday.

Police are still searching for a third person in connection with the attack.

Investigators say the two people under arrest broke into the couple's home located at Madison Place in Marine Park early Monday morning.

According to sources, the burglars sexually assaulted the wife after she refused to hand over her car keys.

Her husband was also hit with a blunt object and slashed.

The alleged attackers later drove off with the wife's car.

The couple is recovering at the hospital.

Neighbors say this is the third time the home has been targeted by burglars this year.
