NEW YORK - New York Mets captain David Wright is expected to start at third base for the last time Saturday.

Wright announced earlier this month that he would suit up for the Mets one last time this weekend.

The 35-year-old has not played since 2016 because of back, neck, and shoulder injuries.

Wright has been rehabbing for the past two years.

But his doctors say there won't be enough improvement for him to play full-time.

Wright started his major league career with the Mets in 2004 and was named captain in 2013.

After missing most of the 2015 season, he came back to play for the Mets in the World Series.

He hit his first and only World Series home run in Game 3.

Wright is a two-time winner of the Silver Slugger and Gold Glove Awards.

He is also the Mets' all-time leader in hits, runs, and RBIs, and is second on the team's home run list.
