Police say a 16-year-old boy was killed Friday after he was shot him in the head, by gunfire from more than 100 feet away, at a Brooklyn basketball court.

It happened around 3:50 p.m. at the Chester Playground on Sutter Ave. and Chester St. in Brownsville.

Four teenage boys were playing basketball after school when shots were fired into the park, police said.

Oluwadurotimi Oyebola was transported to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly before 4:15 p.m.

Police have not made any arrests at this time but said two men were seen fleeing the scene southbound on Chester St.

"I want to ask him a question — why he did what he did," said David Oyebola, the father of the victim. "I just need to know. I need an answer."

Authorities said it is likely that the victim was an unintended target.

As of the time of this writing, officials have not confirmed a motive for the shooting, or any arrests.

Oyebola, who also went by the name Timothy, lived in Jamaica, Queens, and attended a charter school, Brooklyn Ascend High School, close to the park.

"The Ascend community is devastated by the news that the life of our student and friend Oluwadurotimi Oyebola has been taken in an act of utterly senseless gun violence. Our deepest condolences are extended to his family and friends, and as a community we are focused on supporting them and providing counseling to his friends and teachers on site. Oluwadurotimi's future was bright, and it is simply unfathomable that it was cut short so heinously," Steven Wilson, the CEO of Ascend Learning, said in a statement.

Timothy's father said his family came from Nigeria to the United States seeking a better life. David Oyebola said his son was going to receive an academic award from Columbia University in November. He said his son as joyous, active in their church, and had a bright future ahead of him. Now, his family is trying to cope with the loss.

Investigators are conducting a video canvas of the neighborhood.
