A new art exhibit featuring the work of people on the autism spectrum has been getting some attention.

About 20 participants created works of art - or writings on display in Sea View this past week.

It’s all tied in with the creative writing and art history program overseen by the GRACE Foundation - a nonprofit providing services and programs to children and young adults with autism.

Spanning several rooms, the exhibit showcases history from the civil war, as well as personal essays about family vacations.  Those involved say they wanted to bring access to creative opportunities to people on the spectrum.

Julie Gottesman, Program Director of the GRACE Foundation, says “in order to discover the world it has to be tactile, it has to be auditory, it has to be something that they really genuinely feel and experience and become a part of.”

The exhibit wrapped up on Friday, August 17th, but organizers say they want to travel the artwork to other venues, including schools and libraries in the area.
