Firefighters believe a lightning strike sparked a fire at Saratoga Springs' City Hall last night.

Witnesses described hearing a loud noise just before flames sparked in the attic of the building. Three fire companies were called in to assist, though the sprinklers kept the fire from spreading beyond a small area.

The mayor says the biggest concern is water damage on several floors of City Hall.

“It was a relatively small fire,” said Mayor Meg Kelly. “A lot of smoke, but overall there was a lot of water damage…It will be significant work to get done up to speed, but we will be operating Monday.”

Nobody is believed to have been hurt in the fire.
