The reaction continues on the heels of President Trump's visit to the North Country and the Mohawk Valley.

Central New York Congressman John Katko didn't spend any time with the president, but he was asked about the trip Tuesday.

Katko praised Trump for highlighting Fort Drum as he signed the National Defense Authorization Act. He called it an important bill, which will do a lot for the military.

"For the first time in a decade they actually got a pay increase of any substance,” said Katko. “And after a decade of really bad funding levels, we're getting it back to where it should be to keep us as a country safe, and that's really important."

Katko is facing a challenge from Democrat Dana Balter this November.
