The city's speed camera program expired last month.

And it seems that's given some drivers a green light to bolt through school zones.

While the cameras are still recording data, they aren't issuing any tickets.

So far, they've clocked more than 132,000 drivers exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 miles per hour since the program expired July 25th.

The state Assembly passed a bill to extend the program, but the state Senate never approved it.

During his "Mondays with the Mayor" appearance on NY1, Mayor de Blasio said the city shouldn't have to rely on police officers to ticket speeding drivers.

"Ask any New Yorker, would you rather have a cop standing there waiting to give a speeding ticket when the camera can have the same preventative impact and that officer could be out fighting crime or doing something that only a human being could do?" de Blasio said.

The final 20 mobile speed cameras are set to shut down next week.
