There was a soccer game going in Flushing Meadows Park when a line of thunderstorms descended on Queens. Without warning, a bolt of lighting struck this field, zapping two men. One of them, 42-year-old Segundo Cuji, spoke to NY1 but asked that we not show his face.

"At that time, it felt like a truck came over me, hit me to the floor, to the ground," Cuji said.

At first, Cuji said, he thought another player had hit him. He says he could not move his legs at first and feared he was paralyzed.

"My reaction was, 'Oh God, please save my legs,'" he tells us.

But then he saw that his good friend Giovanny Astudillo had been knocked to the ground, too, and he realised it was a lighting strike. 

"I feel so bad for him and his whole family because I think the whole family is praying of him, that he’s getting better. And I’m one of them also," Cuji said.

The 110th Precinct Community Council tweeted out photos. 

"And the good thing was, the ambulance was too close to us because they came, a minute, they be there to help us," he said.

Cuji's friend Astudillo was taken to Elmhust Hospital and then Jacobi Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday. Cuji was admitted to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where we interviewed him Wednesday. He says he knows how fortunate he is.

"Nobody has the same luck because some people happen to me or happen different things, but not everybody will be here like me," he said.
