NEW YORK - The New York City Police Department is rolling out another body camera pilot program.

A federal judge ordered the department to document all encounters, to better understand how many are initiated on the basis of race.

The NYPD will then determine whether all police encounters should be recorded, not just ones that lead to an arrest.

In response to the court order, the NYPD said, "We have worked very closely with the monitor to implement many positive changes, including enhanced training programs and new policies designed to police effectively and lawfully while building trust."

The NYPD has gradually been introducing body cams as part of a legal settlement over its stop-and-frisk practices.

The judge says the city will bear the cost of the pilot program.
