The city is advising New Yorkers to be prepared for a heat wave this weekend.

Starting Friday morning, temperatures are expected to reach into the 90s.

Officials say those with health conditions or anyone who uses drugs or alcohol are at an increased risk from the heat.

Cooling centers will open Friday across the city, for those who don't have a working air conditioner.

Public pools will also stay open until 8 p.m.

State officials are also asking New Yorkers to check on elderly neighbors, who are more vulnerable to the heat.

Everyone is encouraged to drink extra water and avoid strenuous activity.
