A photo exhibit is shining some light on a dark corner of the borough.

The Bronx Documentary Center hosted an evening photography festival called "Claremont Illuminated" on the corner of 169th St. and Webster Ave. in Claremont Village.

The two day event projected images on walls surrounding a stairwell at the location.

The exhibit explored the diverse lives and stories of the community.

Organizers said the event helped to make the location safer for residents by revitalizing the dark and isolated stairwell

"Public art can actually really transform peoples lives, bring people together, make people safer; I mean, it can lead to having kids out on the street and just enjoying educational activities and all kinds of things,"sa id director Michael Kamber.

The festival is the first in a series of projects aimed at engaging the community to improve lighting and promote public safety.
