SAN ANTONIO – Governor Greg Abbott paid a special visit on Thursday to the oldest Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Texas.

The governor took part in a Flag Day ceremony along with hundreds of San Antonio veterans at post 76.

The group marked the day by holding a ceremonial retirement of the flags. Flags that are no longer in flying condition are burned.

"This is a day where we celebrate the flag that made and symbolizes what the United States of America is all about. And as my brother pointed out already, there is no better place that we can be celebrating flag day than right here in Military City, USA San Antonio, Texas," said Abbott.

The ceremony concluded with a celebration to pay tribute to Old Glory.
