One person died, and two people were injured, after a fire in an apartment building in the Bronx on Saturday, the city police department said.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. in an apartment on Adams Place near East 182nd St. in the Belmont section of the borough.

Police said a 44-year-old man was found unconscious with severe burns. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A 50-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man were also taken the hospital. The NYPD said the woman suffered third-degree burns and the man was listed in stable condition with a foot injury.

Officials have not confirmed the cause of the blaze, which the city fire department said was under control in about 35 minutes.
