More than 41 million Americans are expected to travel this holiday weekend, up by more than 5 percent from last year. And as motorists gas up, they'll be paying more at the pump.

The national average per gallon has jumped to $2.97.

New York City residents are paying even more - about $3.20 a gallon, to be exact.

Meanwhile, extra patrols will be on the roads this weekend looking for drunk, impaired or reckless drivers.

State officials say last year at this time, more than 12,000 tickets were issued, and 237 people were arrested for drunk driving.
