A family has reached a legal settlement with United Airlines after their dog died in an overhead bin.

A necropsy revealed that the 10-month-old puppy died from suffocation.

Back in March, a flight attendant insisted the family store the dog named Kokito overhead, which ultimately cut off his air supply.

The family's lawyer says both parties reached the agreement amicably and that Kokito served as a "martyr" for other dogs.

The amount of settlement was not disclosed.
