Some aspiring designers are making their runway debut at a "fashion graduation".

The BKLYN Fashion Academy hosted its first runway show at the Central Library in Prospect Heights on Friday. The show featured 15 fashion designers who completed the twelve-week long program. It provided the participants the opportunity to learn how to create their own unique designs and open a business.

Each designer showcased four of their unique designs inspired by Congolese fashions.

One of the designers, Sharufa Rashied-Walker, whose brand is Jinaki says  "I drew from that menswear inspiration, infused it with my own brand's aesthetic, which I like to call...I'm taking the audience on a retro fantasy."

The fifteen lucky participants were selected from a pool of 52 applicants. They all had to be Brooklyn residents and know how to sew.
