City dwellers shed their layers in full force Wednesday, the hottest day of 2018 and the warmest in New York City since September.

Wednesday gave New Yorkers their first 90-degree reading since Sept. 24. It was a far cry from April 2, when snow hit the city.

Daily heat records were set at LaGuardia Airport and JFK Airport, while the daily temperature record of 90 degrees was tied at Central Park. That record was set in 2001.

The low humidity and strong winds in the city Wednesday created a high fire danger, however.

The National Weather Service had issued an air quality alert that lasted until 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The sunshine will stick around for Thursday with highs in the upper 80s and a chance of showers and storms due to more humidity.

The warming trend is projected to continue Friday with highs expected to reach the 80s.

There is a slight chance of scattered thunderstorms Friday, followed by a cooldown this weekend.
