"Mean Girls" took in 12 nominations, including best musical.
Also up for best musical, is "Spongebob Squarepants", who also has 12 nominations.
Tony and Grammy winner Leslie Odom Jr. and actress in the musical, "Waitress," Katharine McPhee announced the nominees at Lincoln Center.
The other nominees up for best musical include "The Band's Visit" and "Frozen".
The shows nominated for best play are "The Children", "Farinelli and the King", "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts one and two", "Junk", and "Latin History for Morons".
Nominees for best revival of a musical are "My Fair Lady", "Once on this Island", and "Carousel".
And five shows are up for best revival of a play.
Those include "Angels in America", "Three Tall Women", "The Iceman Cometh", "Lobby Hero", and "Travesties".
The Tony awards will be handed out Sunday, June 10 at Radio City Music Hall.
