The city police union on Friday called on lawmakers to step in as the parole board is set to release a man convicted of killing three police officers.

Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch is asking Governor Andrew Cuomo and legislators to fix the loopholes that he says allowed Herman Bell to be paroled in the first place.

Bell was scheduled to walk out of prison a free man Friday after serving 44 years for murdering two NYPD officers in 1971.

A parole board granted his release back in February.

The PBA filed an appeal on the move on behalf of the victim's family.

While the appeal did not land in their favor, for Lynch, the fight is not over.

"We're absolutely challenging their process, they didn't go by their law. Unfortunately the first judge didn't see it our way. We're hoping the second judge will take the time and say - all we're asking is - make sure they go by the criteria, make sure they go by the law, and give us a fresh clean uncorrupted parole board to hear this family out," Lynch said.

Bell has been held at the Shawangunk Correctional Facility.

He also pleaded guilty to killing a sergeant in San Francisco.
