NEW YORK - Three local members of Congress are asking the Federal Trade Commission to investigate reports of a scam targeting victims of the September 11th terror attacks.

Representatives Carolyn Maloney, Jerrold Nadler and Peter King say scammers are posing as staffers from the Victim Compensation Fund in order to get personal information about first responders and survivors.

The fund currently aids people with health problems believed to be related to the 2001 terror attacks.

An alert on the fund's website warns that unknown individuals are making the calls.

It says they are requesting information to supposedly help with victims' claims.

The fund urges people to report such calls to the commission
