Dozens of people in the Bronx won't have to worry about paying for a haircut this month. That's because they got it for free on Sunday thanks to nine celebrity stylists brought in by the nonprofit called The Bronx Rox.

The nonprofit tries to build pride in the borough by working with local residents, businesses and organizations to inspire and acknowledge those making a difference in the community.

All the people who got free haircuts Sunday are from local shelters or affiliated with nonprofits.

Organizers say they hope the new looks will help participants feel empowered.

"We had a guy, a homeless guy come. He said he was trying to look for a job and he didn't want to go to any job interview with the way his hair was so hopefully we've given him some encouragement," said Michelle Daniels, Founder, The Bronx Rox.

People participating also learned about other local nonprofits including "Save our Streets" which advocates to end gun violence.

The stylists who were at Sunday's event are all part of what's called "Haircut 4 Humanity."

They go across the city and around the world giving people in need free haircuts.
