Staten Island teens are getting the chance to go to prom without worrying about the expense.

For the fifth year, free dresses and accessories were distributed on Saturday in Mariners Harbor.

The event was organized by the nonprofit Ladies First, which provides mentoring programs for young women on Staten Island.

Organizers said they started the dress giveaway after learning many students did not go to prom because they could not afford a dress.

"We take all of the expense out of it, and all you need to do is find a date. So it helps us make the dream come true for young ladies for whom that wouldn't be a possibility otherwise," said Tracy Brown, the director of community relations at Ladies First.

The teenagers also received free makeup for the big night, and one person attending won a free prom photo shoot.
