Community residents expressed their displeasure Tuesday night for a rezoning plan in a Manhattan neighborhood.

Local residents said the Inwood proposal would just add more large buildings to the area that will not fit in with the neighborhood.

They also ripped the plan for not including enough affordable housing.

"If the majority of new apartment units built have the effect of pricing out working class poor folks, it will have a racially segretory effect," said one Inwood resident.

"This is a gentrification process in action. This is the time to work to protect our community, not hasten its demise," said another Inwood resident.

The proposal calls for more than 4,300 new apartments.

Between 1,300 and 1,500 would be designated affordable.
