Staten Islanders are springing into action to beautify local parks.

Residents stepped up to ready parks for the spring and summer seasons in Westerleigh Saturday morning.  It's part of the "It's My Park" iniative throughout the city where volunteers plant flowers and clean up parks in their neighborhoods.  Brian Whalen, Vice President of the Westerleigh Parks Coalition, says it helps maintain the quality of the parks for the community.  "Not only does the park look better, but it enhances the value of properties. It's a better place to take your family. As parks look better families tend to come more."

Residents can enjoy the spruced up parks with an Earth Day Event on Saturday April 21st starting at 12 PM at Westerleigh Park.
