Mayor Bill de Blasio is facing backlash from the city's transport workers union for skipping out on funeral services for two transit workers killed on the job last month.

TWU President Tony Utano says de Blasio, "Made no gesture of any kind to recognize that these two hardworking men lost their lives in service to the city of New York. That is just despicable. It’s a slap in the face of every bus and subway worker in the city."

During a press conference Wednesday, de Blasio offered his sympathy for the fallen workers.

"I respond personally on behalf of the city when it's a city employee. So, you know, God forbid anyone dies at the Port Authority or the state government, federal government, obviously I feel something and my personal condolences go out - but my official role is to speak about when it's a city employee," De Blasio said.

St. Claire Richard Stephens, 23, died on March 20, after falling from a ledge while working in a subway tunnel in Harlem.

Just one week later, 59-year-old Stephen Livecchi was struck and killed by a bus while on duty in Queens.
