The man accused of killing an FDNY EMT in the Bronx last year was found mentally unfit to stand trial at this time, the district attorney said Tuesday.

44-year-old Yadira Arroyo was responding to a 911 call in Soundview in March of 2017 when Jose Gonzalez stole her ambulance and ran her over, police said.

Gonzalez, 26, has pleaded not guilty to murder, manslaughter, and robbery charges.

Arroyo's union said the state medical director made the determination and informed the union and the Bronx district attorney's office.

The medical findings will be sent for the district attorney's medical director to review.

"Today's discovery was no surprise, we knew that this will be the defense tactic, a delay for justice," an official for the union said.

Gonzalez is due back in court April 13, the deadline for the Bronx district attorney's office to accept or challenge the determination.

About a week after he was arrested in connection with Arroyo's death, Gonzalez's defense asked that Gonzalez remain in Bellevue Hospital for treatment for physical and mental illness.
