Grocery shopping just got a little more fun and a lot healthier for kids tagging along with their parents on Staten Island.

ShopRite is bringing the Free Fruit For Kids program to its three Staten Island locations.

The program allows children 12 and under to pick up a free piece of seasonal fruit while shopping with a parent.

Organizers say they hope the program helps develop healthier eating habits for kids.

"By providing them with free fruit, we're exposing them to a healthy snack throughout their lives and maybe the next day. The goal is just to promote health and wellness to our shoppers, to the children in the community," said Morgan Lindsay, Retail Registered Dietitian, ShopRite.

To learn about healthy cooking and shopping tips, Staten Islanders can schedule a consultation with a ShopRite dietitian in-store or online.
