If you're trying to get your kids a passport for the first time, or lose your own - you're about to pay the price for it.  Just in time for the start of the busy holiday travel season, some passport prices are spiking.

The execution fee to get a passport for the first time or replace a lost or stolen one is jumping from $25 dollars to $35 dollars beginning next week. That's according to the U.S. Department of State.

There is some good news, however. The fee will not apply to adults eligible to renew their passport by mail.

Staten Islanders NY1 spoke with weren't too suprised by the price hike.  One borough resident says "that's the sign of the times...things never go down. So, in essence, the government needs money. That's the reason they're hiking it."

The added fee offically goes into effect on April 2nd.  Be sure to check with your local passport acceptance facility or post office to see if an appointment is needed for a passport application.
