Funeral services were held Saturday on Long Island for an FDNY firefighter who was killed in Iraq earlier this month.

More than ten thousand people, including many members of the city fire department and uniformed officers, packed the streets outside St. Joseph's Church in Kings Park, where the funeral for FDNY Lt. Christopher Raguso was held.

"Chris is casting a long silhouette from heaven and we will forever be walking in it," FDNY LT. Christopher Gorzynski said during the funeral.

Raguso, 39, was an Air Force master sergeant who died on March 15 when the helicopter he was on hit a power line during a routine personnel transfer.  Six other United States service members were killed in the crash, including Fire Marshal Christopher Zanetis of Long Island City.

A memorial service was held Thursday inside Washington Square Park for Zanetis.

Besides being on military orders in the United States armed forces, Raguso was a 13-year veteran of the city fire department, having spent 11 years at Ladder 113 in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens before he was transferred to Queens in 2016.

The Commack, Long Island resident leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.

"Why did the lord, God, take this young man, who was a life-saver, a difference-maker, a leader, a teacher, a fantastic son, a great big brother, a loving husband, and an exemplary father to his girls? Why?" said FDNY Captain John Raguso, Christopher Raguso's father. "The tried expression that only the good die young really hits home here."

Mayor Bill de Blasio, Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, First Lady Chirlane McCray attended the funeral, along with community members, who showed up in full force for their neighborhood hero.

"I know he was a great, great father, husband, brother," said Sean Armstrong, a family friend of Raguso. "He was just an outstanding man, and he gave his life for this country, and I can't thank him enough."

According to the FDNY, Raguso was cited for bravery and life-saving actions six separate times.

The Department of Defense said Staff Sergeant Dashan Briggs and Captain Andreas O'Keeffe were among those killed when their chopper crashed in Western Iraq.

Both New York Air National Guard members were from Long Island.

All four men were assigned to the 106th Rescue Wing and were stationed in Westhampton Beach.
