FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Police are working to locate a man they have now charged with murder and kidnapping in the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend in 2014.

They believe Reginald McDowell is currently in the New York City area.

Surveillance video of the night Meta Valentine was last seen in October 2014 shows her walking towards her home, and as she does, police say she's chased into it by McDowell.

Valentine's son says having charges against McDowell is a step toward closure.

"After three years you get used to it a little bit but you know it’s tough somedays, you know, different events that happen. Like her birthday’s coming up April 26. it’s always hard around that time," said Valentine's son DeMario.

McDowell is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information of his whereabouts is asked to call police.
