A Manhattan street now bears the name of former Congresswoman and activist Bella Abzug.

The southeast corner of Bank Street and Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich Village is now Bella S. Abzug Way.

Abzug lived in that neighborhood for many years.

The street renaming honors her legacy as a trailblazer in the fight for women's, civil and gay rights.

Abzug served in the House of Representatives from 1971 to 1977.

In 1976, she narrowly lost the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate to Daniel Moynihan.

She died in 1998.
